A little sanding. A lot of discovery.
What we are working toward
A model rocket taking shape, new building skills, and a project to bring to our launch day.
Everyone gets a job
Kids
Sort parts, follow diagrams, sand, fit, and assemble with a parent. Explain a step and check the result together.
Parents
Build too: read instructions, take turns on assembly steps, help with alignment, and supervise tools and adhesives.
Every child attends with a parent. Both take part in the activity, setup, and cleanup, with tasks matched to ability and appropriate supervision.
Kids and adults put phones away, share tools and turns, and help each other learn. Please read the Family Participation Guidelines together before attending.
How the day takes shape
- Unpack and get to know the parts.
- Learn a technique, then try it together.
- Check the fit and build at your kit’s pace.
- Decide what needs drying or finishing before launch day.
- Help return supplies and clean the work area.
What to bring
- An Estes rocket kit that requires assembly, from HobbyTown or online.
- The instructions for your particular kit.
- A parent ready to build alongside their child.
Shared arrangements
- Shared sandpaper, glue, and paint. Supplies will be matched to the kits.
- A shared approach to preparing parts, assembling, and checking the work.
Details still taking shape
Start time, venue, session length, and kit-specific supplies will be shared with participating families. Painting depends on the kit and drying time; rockets may need finishing at home.
Event-specific costs have not been announced. This page describes the plan and does not reserve a place.
